Description

This film offers a specific insight into the world of the 50,000 or so people in the UK who are profoundly deaf and who use a wholly visual language called BSL to communicate. Deaf BSL users experience huge challenges trying to access everyday information and services which hearing people take for granted. Use this course to understand those challenges better and learn ways to adapt your methods of communication to overcome them.

Watching this film, you will understand better:

  • why many deaf BSL users struggle with reading and writing
  • the importance of using a fully qualified BSL interpreter for medical and other appointments
  • how difficult lip reading can be

This online course comes in two modules. The first module is a 30-minute film. The second module is a short quiz. All learners who successfully complete the quiz are awarded a GDA Understand Deafness certificate.
